「アンタッチャブル」で英語を聴く。

NHK BSプレミアムで 久しぶりに 『アンタッチャブル』（‘The Untouchables’，1987）を観ました。
ケビン・コスナー（‘Kevin Costner’，1955～ ）が主演（初主演？）する映画では 『ボディガード』（‘The Bodyguard’，1992）と並んで好きな作品です。

三つのシーンで英語を聴いてみました。

① 裁判でアル・カポネに有罪判決が下ったあと，それでも仲間を殺されて我慢できないエリオット・ネスがカポネに対して 詰め寄って言います。

Never stop.
Never stop fighting till the fight is done.                  

What'd he say？ What are you saying？.

                

l said, never stop fighting till the fight is done.

What？

You heard me, Capone. lt's over.

                  
You're nothin' but a lot of talk and a badge.

② ミッションが片付いてネスが，失った二人の仲間を思いつつ，財務省への帰り支度をしているところに 部下ジョージ・ストーンが来て挨拶を交わし，ジム・マローンの形見をネスはストーンに渡します。

‘endeth’：‘ends’の文語。
              ‘Here endeth the lesson.’ ：
                       Formula used in the Book of Common Prayer.
                       「聖公会祈祷書」で使われる定型句

‘put someone on the spot’： ① （人）を質問で困らせる
                                         ② （人）の命を狙う，（人）を殺すことに決める
                                         ③ （人）を困難な状況に陥れる。
                                               → 「カポネを挙げた」

‘when the wheel went round’： 「車輪が回ったとき」→ 「コトが動いた時」
