“Step on it” は 「急いでくれ」。

先日，NHK BSプレミアムで  「ペリカン文書」（‘The Pelican Brief’，1993）を，何年かぶりに観ました。
若き日の二大俳優，当時 25歳だったジュリア・ロバーツ（‘Julia Roberts’, 1967～ ） と 38歳だったデンゼル・ワシントン（‘Denzel Washington’, 1954～ ）が，それぞれ 法学生と ワシントン・ヘラルド紙の記者を演じる ‘legal political thriller film’「法律・政治スリラー映画」です。

英語を聴いていると 勉強になる表現があります。

デンゼル・ワシントンがタクシーに乗って，運転手に速く走るように言うシーン，字幕は「急いで」です。
英語の台詞は “Step on it” （“it” が聴き取りにくい）です。

辞書には “step on it” でー

「アクセルを踏む」で「急ぐ」となり，車に乗ってない場合でも使うようです。

        ・to go somewhere quickly

  【Example sentences】

これが言える日本人はクールですが，慣れてなければ，急いでいる時，すぐには 出てきそうにない表現です。
今後，私が使うことはないと思われる表現です。
